How to File a Corrected 1099

It is only possible to file a corrected 1099 if the original 1099 was previously filed through Yearli and the 1099 must have a status back from the IRS. Premier subscribers can correct prior-year forms, but Core and Performance are only able to correct current-year forms.

The IRS only allows one type of change to be made to a specific form at a time. If you need to change both the recipient information and the amount, you can either void out the original and issue a new form with the right info, or you can make one type of correction first, submit it, wait for a status to come back, and then do the other correction type.

For help with what corrections to make when you get a "correction needed" status, please see the Correction Needed - How to Fix 1099 TIN or Date of Birth Validation Failures article.

Correcting Payer Information

The IRS does not allow payer information to be corrected electronically. To make a payer correction there are two options:

  1. Void the original 1099 and file a new 1099 electronically.
    • Steps for voiding the incorrect form can be found at the bottom of this article.
  2. To correct payer information without filing a corrected 1099, a letter can be written to the IRS.
    • For full information on the letter requirements, please visit IRS Publication 1220 and review the corrected returns section.
    • If you choose to have the changes made via letter, in place of the TCC, you can write a short statement that Greatland transmitted the forms on your behalf.

For additional information on correcting payer information, please contact the IRS at 1-866-455-7438.
